Hazel Leys Academy will be joining in with Sport Relief for the whole week! Mrs Cadman is organising events for each day – more information to follow. The last day, Friday 23rd March, we will hold a sponsored bounce to raise money for Sport Relief. This will also be a mufti day; we will ask for a donation of £1 that will help pay for a special Bounce Dome. Children will have sponsor forms for bouncing! Each child will have a turn on the Bounce Dome and we will count how many bounces children can do in a specified time. It will be fun and energetic. The money raised from the sponsored bounce goes to Sport Relief. Please can parents make sure that PE kits are in school for this week.

National Careers Week - 5th to 9th March
Published 24/02/18Careers Week. 5th—9th March is Careers Week. We are very excited as we have lots of visitors visiting our Academy during the week. On Monday 5th we will be hosting a ‘What’s my Line’ Assembly— volunteers will answer questions from our children who will try to guess their profession. The volunteers will only answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’. After ten minutes the volunteers will leave the assembly and return in their uniform or will bring in the tools of the trade. On 9th March we are hosting a Careers fair and inviting four other Greenwood Dale Academies to join us. We will have 10 professions attending and they will be giving lots of information to our children about their profession. Our aim is to ensure our children begin to have some insight in to what careers are available to them once they leave school.

World Book Day - Thursday 1st March
Published 20/02/18Share a Story campaign has been launched for 2018. The campaign has been created to encourage parents and carers to spend just 10 minutes a day reading and sharing stories with their children. Similarly, children are encouraged to read with their parents - and older siblings are invited to read with younger brothers and sisters, too. It's a fantastically fun, nationwide event. Parents have the opportunity to share what they are reading using #ShareAStory. A great idea is to share a 'shelfie' take a photograph of your bookcase or book shelf or pile of reading books at home and share with your teacher via the academy website.
We will be giving out £1 book tokens on the day, we will also be using the day to dress up as a favourite character or book.
Children have the opportunity to dress up for World Book Day.
Each class has a special theme
Nursery – dress up as a nursery rhyme or a traditional tale character
Reception – the choice of any character from a favourite book
Year 1 and Year 2– the theme for the term is ‘Animals’ please dress up as an animal or an animal character from a story, for example Paddington Bear, The Gruffalo, Mr Fox, The Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs
Year 3 – The BFG
Year 4 – Knights and Princesses
Year 5 – Egyptians
Year 6 – World War II
