Oundle Festival of Literature - 5th to 9th March

Monday 5th March to Friday 9th March at The Great Hall Oundle

Reception to Year 5 will be taking part.

Developing a passion for reading.  We are delighted to be taking part in the Oundle Literacy Festival, Kid Lit.  Classes of children will be travelling to Oundle to meet authors, listen to their stories or watch performances.  It is a great opportunity for children as they will be able to ask questions, take part in activities and best of all enjoy reading.

Years 4 and 5 will be listening to Tom McLaughlin read The Accidental Prime Minister.  Tom will talk about how he progressed from working as a political cartoonist to being a kids’ author. His event will include lots of storytelling, live drawing including character design as well as the story making process. The talk also includes how he has dealt with dyslexia and how it can be used as a positive in the creative process. There will be lots of laughs, lots of stories and lots of drawing too.

Year 3 The Clubhouse Mystery, the first book in Erika McGann’s new Cass and the Bubble Street Gang series is receiving raving reviews. Cass and her best friends, Lex and Nicholas, are the Bubble Street Gang! They investigate crimes, solve mysteries and have brilliant adventures. They've even got their own secret clubhouse.  Erika will be doing a very interactive talk starting with how she started writing as a child, the friends and games and fears that inspired different stories, and where Cass and the Bubble Street Gang came from. She will read from one of her books, and then play a couple of games.

Reception Year 1 and Year 2 Oskar, the fun-loving Swiss puppy, lives with Grandma and her animals in the little house on top of the mountain. They have been snowbound for weeks and Oskar, desperate for a game, goes out alone in the snow to find a friendly animal to play with. However the animals Oskar meets are not as friendly as he hoped. He only manages to avoid the attentions of a hungry fox by falling down a deep hole in the ground and landing on top of a young hibernating marmot. Marmot forgives Oskar for waking her up and using her amazing digging and whistling skills helps the little dog escape the fox and reunites him with his family.  This event will include a performance of Oskar’s Amazing Adventure and the opportunity to take part in games and creative activities inspired by the story. The play encourages children to concentrate and focus by involving them in the action, for example, they are asked to join in with the movements the performer makes in the songs, and guess elements of the storyline for themselves.

Love reading at Hazel Leys Academy.
